Snow-Camp 2004

The first ever pilot Snow-Camp's ran in April 2004 and were a great success!

13 young people from estates in south London attended over 2 weeks and had an amazing experience. The young people learnt to ski and snowboard though lessons with the European Ski Schools and completed a Life Skills course each evening helping them learn about themselves and each other.

For many it was their first time overseas, and for all the first time in the mountains. This environment or extreme natural beauty was the perfect setting for a week away from the oppressive nature of inner city estates, and a great chance to have fun, develop as individuals and learn challenging new skills.

The growth in confidence and self esteem was clear in many members of the group, and the evaluations showed it had been a profound experience for the young people who attended

Snow-Camp plans to take two more groups of teenagers out to Les Deux Alpes in Easter 2005 and hopes to expand to offer the opportunity to other youth groups in future.

Snow-Camp's funding has come from various sources including the National Lottery 'UnLtd' grant scheme, the Stockwell Community Grants Programme and the Skiers Trust of Great Britain.
